Meaning that "all season" tires aren't very good in the summer or winter. Quite worthless up here.

Garth doesn't like all season tires...
Not very good winters, not very good summers... generally a mediocre compromise

No I do not :-). Buy some real winter tires. Studded. My faves are Nokians. The best of all I've driven.

Agree about good summer or good winter vs all season
Do not agree aout studded... I think studless is where it's at, i don't really like my studs, but they are still lots better than an all season

I thought that blizzaks were the bomb untill I tried the newer low-pro ones, not impressed at all. OG Haakepellitas or Haaka IIs own them all day long. I don't care what kind of fancy, soft, fast wearing rubber you make a tire out of, it doesn't beat metal teeth.

I feel the exact opposite. If you brake too hard, you skid, I've just found that the threshold is greater with studs. And firstly, you shouldn't be driving that fast in the winter anyways. I don't think I could feel any worse about confirming Stupid BMWs reccomendation to get studless when J got her winter tires. Nearly $800 up in smoke. As soon as they are even remotely worn out she's getting Haaks. I need to sell the Cooper's from my car and get them for my 5 as well. Reid is about to buy a new set for the GTi (instead of using a free set of Blizzcraks).
I will say that they do work OK on an AWD or 4wd car, but for 2wd no way. The Audi with Haaka IIs was the best winter car I have ever had. Hands down.
I geuss we'll have to agree to disagree. :-)

Last winter was the fisrt time i ran with Studless. i'm SOLD. I got the michelln X-Ice tires and they were as good or better then any of the Haakepellitas i have had.
It doesn't mater if you have 2wd, 4wd, AWD, they all have to stop on snow and ICE.

Horse being beaten already, I'd agree to go with 2 sets of tires (summer/winter). Studless vs Studded debates are a lot like Ford vs Chevy. I've run both, and currently run both. prows and cons to em both. Get what you feel comfortable with $$$ wise and what you think fits your style best, do research, etc. MAIN point being... do NOT rock "all-seasons", get dedicated winters... and dedicated summers.
I'd personally look into suspension stuff next. But sounds like you are more into sound systems.
Trini's idea is spot on... start a car fund, as this mod slope become VERY slippery VERY fast, and the next thing you know you go to sell the car 3 years later and find out you spent 5k on non-maintenance stuff. HAhaha

F5DPOR: I am not sure I would run those plugs unless you are chipped or BT (which you are neither right now correct?).
From personal experience cheap ass Auto-lite copper plugs did great in my old 1.8T (APR Stage 3). And in the 2.0T I am running NGK Iridiums a heat range colder, because I am chipped (which actually may be giving me a few issues that I need to inspect).
I would suggest replacing the plugs if you haven't yet. Anytime I buy a used car, first thing I do is change out all the fluids, plugs, inspect filters etc.... But like I said, until you are chipped and even then, I would get some inexpensive plugs.
And speaking of, GO GET CHIPPED! :)
