no. it's not real. Whatever car you are looking at, it is not a real M3. Four door M3's came in the e36 Generation, and e90(current) generation but only for a year or two of production.

The e30 M3 did not come in a four door model.

It's possible the car could have an e30 m3 engine in it. but I doubt that... get the VIN and do some detective work online to see if it's legit.

bmw 3 series model years
e30 - 1983-1991 (e30 m3 87-91)
e36 - 1991-1999
e46 - 1999-2005
e90/90/92/93 - 2005-current

There was a m tech e30 but I believe that was a 325is. E 30 m3s also had a 4 cylindar motor.

could it be possible that BMW's had (or have) an "M package" which added features, some styling cues, "M" emblems and the like, but werent actual "M" cars? Ala Audi and the "S" cars versus "S-line"?

BTW, I keep seeing an E46 M3 sedan as well. Its red, and very clean. Is this the one I heard that the guy actually made it into an M3, or is this just a re-badger?

I posted about it in the I Spy thread. e46's m3's did not come in a sedan.

From Wiki:

Quote
There are several BMW models which BMW Motorsport made changes on, without them becoming full M-Cars e.g. BMW 530i M-line packet or 325i M-line packet etc. Vehicles which have been modified by BMW Motorsport, but are not full M Cars, may feature plain "M" badges with no number, whilst full M Cars will have "M" badges with the model number (e.g. "M3" or "M5"). One exception to this is the M Coupe model, both Z3 and Z4 variants, which only have on the boot a plain "M" badge with no number displayed. These cars are full M Cars.

In recent years, M badges have been used to accent non-M factory options. Examples of this include the E46 3 series, in which the performance package option upgraded the car to include M68 style rims which had small M badges below the BMW Roundels. In other instances, M styling without the badges has trickled down into non-M cars as factory options. For example, both the E39 and E60 5 series sedans had optional aerodynamic packages that included strongly influenced M5 styling (for example bumpers). It is not unusual to see "standard" BMW's with "M" badges or ribbons accenting the design. Simply look at the tachometer, without the M mark and the 300 km/h it's not an M5 E34.

so, cars with M-package stuff get an "///M" badge, where-as real M cars get an "///M3" (or m5, etc.) badge. Yeah, it's like the S-line, or even the .:R stuff.

That red e46 is probably a ZHP car, which is why it looks so cool. It's probably just the M badge he has, and not an M3 badge (like I originally thought). BMW of Anchorage, has a blue e90 with the M-package and it has M logo's on the steering wheel and other places - although I don't recall seeing an M badge on the rear. In Europe it's more common for M-packaged cars to get M logo's on the exterior.

There were a few M-tech cars made in the e-30 and e-36 lineups, they have suspention upgrades, body kit pieces and all the badges but not the motor. I believe that package can be verified thogh to see if it's real or a poser car with just a bunch of badges slapped on.

I think I heard Monster refer to his as a M sport package on the 135i, he has m badges all over the place but it's not an M. It lacked M badges on the cluster, seats and didn't have the tri colored stitching on the steering wheel.

don't forget the wolfsburg package.

Surprising how fun that car was in the summer, but in the winter the legacy rules!
